A luxury limousine from Vladimir Putin’s official car fleet exploded in central Moscow, The Sun reported. The news has raised fresh fears related to the Russian president’s safety and has also escalated doubts on internal threats within the Kremlin. A video of the limo on fire has also surfaced on the internet. The blast took place just days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky predicted that Russia could experience a decisive setback in the war amid his ill health-related rumours.

Amid mounting battlefield losses, Zelensky has also recently made a bold comment on the ongoing war: ”Valdimir Putin will die soon,’’ calling it a ”fact” as per a report by the Mirror. He went on to add, ‘’…it will come to an end,’’ while pleading with the United States to ”stay strong” and continue the pressure on Moscow to stop its aggression.
The £275,000 Aurus Senat, considered a symbol of Russia’s political elite, was seen burning near the FSB headquarters in Lubyanka. The flames broke out from the engine and then spread inside the vehicle, as per witnesses. People who were present during the incident at nearby restaurants rushed out to help before the fire crew arrived, the report stated. Footage showed dense black smoke coming out from the vehicle and damage was observed at the rear of the car. According to The Sun’s report, the reason behind the explosion is not known yet and no injuries have been reported so far.
The vehicle is reportedly managed by the President Property Department, which handles the president’s transport. As for now, it is not clear who was inside the car during the time of the incident.
Putin, 72, is known for using these Russian-made limos regularly and has even gifted them to allies, including North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The explosion occurred at a time when the president seemed to be under threat, especially within his own ranks.
Recently, in Murmansk, ceremonial guards were body searched by Federal Protection Service (FSO) officers. “This is how much he fears for his life,” a former bodyguard stated to a Russian broadcaster, as quoted by The Sun. He also added that Putin does not trust his own staff members.
Putin’s fears are noticeable in a series of intense security moves like FSO agents inspecting garbage bins, sewer covers near the speaking sites. Reports have also come in on the president wearing bulletproof vests during public appearances. “He is protected by a whole army of visible and invisible guards,” a Kremlin source told The Sun.
