- Vinicius Jr missed his second penalty in less than a month as La Liga champion Real Madrid was shocked at home by Valencia 2-1 on Saturday.

- Diego Lopez does really well to hold the ball against a couple of Real Madrid players to wisk away from them and enter the box. His cut back finds a Valencia player at the edge of the box and the shot is blocked. The ball ultimately strikes Hugo Duro’s arm and the referee stops play.

- Alaba with another cross into the box as Endrick, not the tallest, tries to jump and get to the header. But in the process, the youngster pushes Diakhaby down to get to the ball. The referee calls foul play.

- Substitute David Alaba with a beautiful curling cross from the left flank which needed just the toe end of the boot, but Mbappe just falls short of the pass.

- It has been a night to forget for the World Cup winner. Another chance to curl it onto the target but Mbappe skies the opportunity.

- Endrick rises the tallest to get to a Bellingham cross as his header gets blocked by a Valencia player. The Brazilian forward and the 75,000 strong Bernabeu crowd appeal for a handball but the referee says no. A replay shows the ball striking the player’s chest area.

- Alaba, Endrick, and Camavinga come on.
- Modric, Garcia, and Vinicius make way.
- Rodrygo wiggles past his marker, almost using the defender as a shield, and curls a grounded shot but its straight at the ‘keeper.

- Peplu, Perez, Duro come on.

- Mamardashvili extends his left arm out to deny Valverde’s attempt from point-blank range to keep the score as it is.

- Great link-up play between Fran Garcia and Mbappe as the latter slides in to meet the cutback but the effort just goes past the far post. Another close call for the French striker. Could have had a hat-trick tonight!

- The ball comes into the box as a Valencia player guides the ball at the goal with a header. Fran Gonzalez gets down to the ground quickly and makes an important save.

- After the scores were made level, Valencia has looked lost. Giving the ball back to the opposition, missed passes; the visitor has lost a bit of its shine which helped it get the lead in the first place.

- The French forward gets the ball at the edge of the box, just outside, and he hits it with the outside of his right boot. However, the shot is straight at the ‘keeper who paws it away.

- Sadiq is shown a yellow card after he steps on Valverde’s boot.
- Real Madrid, the trailing side, kicks us off in the second half at the Bernabeu.

- Commentators say that the last time Valencia won at Real Madrid was in 2008. Ronald Koeman was the coach in charge and David Villa netted a brace that night. Can the current crop of Valencia players recreate that night?

- Diakhaby’s header remains the difference between the two sides, despite Real Madrid having a host of chances to equalise. Still, the Los Blancos are still very much in the game. Next up, the second half!
- Real Madrid gets a corner. Valencia has to put in an extra bit of effort to keep the lead before half-time.
- 42’- RMA 0-1 VAL; CHANCE!
- Surging run from Bellingham who goes all the way from the halfway line. He tries to toe-poke it into the far post but the ball is centimetres away from the target. He slams the ground in frustration.
- 40’- RMA 0-1 VAL; Still searching
- Final few minutes in the first half. Valencia is holding on with almost 10 players, including the goalie, defending whenever Madrid has the ball and is building from the back.
- 37’- RMA 0-1 VAL; Off the bar!
- While Mbappe was flagged offside, another one of his attempts fails to get on target. It hits the crossbar and a frustrated Mbappe is shown.
- 36’- RMA 0-1 VAL; SAVE! Mbappe denied!
- A quick one-two between Brahim Diaz and Mbappe which sees the latter putting his laces through the ball for a fizzer. The ball is rising but so is the ‘keeper in Mamardashvili. A great save!
- Mbappe drops his shoulders, does a few stepovers, and curls it in between a sea of black shirts. A slight deflection and it fizzes past the far post.

- The English medio runs behind the lines on the right flank and tries to beat his marker to enter the box, but the Valencia defender stays strong to starve the Madrid player of further touches on the ball.

- Can tonight be the time Valencia notches up its first away win this season? Because the side is enjoying the ball now and passing it around with the confidence of a league leader.

- Possession would mean nothing if the Madrid forwards cannot breach Valencia’s back-5. A cross here and a pass there do find themselves inside the opposition box but the visiting defence holds strong.

- Diakhaby is the scorer once again, but not for his side. He tries to clear the ball and smacks the ball right inside the goal, and with a great touch to be fair. However, the referee goes to the TV screen and decides the goal to be invalid because of Mbappe straying off-side.

- An assistant coach on the Valencia bench has been shown by the referee for reasons unknown. The commentators suggest that it could be because of the coach’s reluctance to throw the ball back.

- Both Sadiq and Valverde go for the ball as the latter’s leg clatters into the former’s. The midfielder goes down but has been helped up to continue.

- Right after Valencia takes the lead, Madrid attacks. A long ball is played, searching for Mbappe, and it finds the forward. A decent first touch to control the ball, but Tarrega was on his heels to thwart the threat.

- Almeida floats in the ball from the corner and Diakhaby thumps the ball home with a header, past Fran Gonzalez who couldn’t do anything about it!

- Mbappe switches on his after-burners and runs ahead but Tarrega brings the forward down inside the box. The referee points straight to the penalty spot and brandishes a yellow card to the defender.

- The Frenchman found himself one-on-one against the opposition ‘keeper but he fails to get the ball under his feet. However, the lines referee raises his flag to call the move off-side.

- The typical big team vs small team flow of play as Real Madrid enjoys the ball, with Valencia with its back against the wall and happy to counter-attack when given an opportunity.

- A nervy start to 19-year-old Fran Gonzalez’s Real Madrid debut as the goalie has to deal with a few back passes early on.
