60′ Real Sociedad 0-0 Manchester United
It was a nice finish from Joshua Zirkzee, too. United broke forward again, attacking in numbers, with Dalot down the right finding an incisive pass to Alejandro Garnacho and setting off on the overlap.
Garnacho waited for Dalot’s run to drag away the defender, dribbled forward, and finally found a moment of quality in the final third, pinging a surgically accurate sideways ball across the penalty area, right to left.
Coming onto it was Joshua Zirkzee, cutting onto his stronger right foot, and Zirkzee rattled it first time cleanly through the legs of the defender and beyond the dive of Alex Remiro.
He celebrates with gun fingers as the away fans erupt in elation. Could the goalkeeper have done better? The ball was sweetly struck but was very central in the goal, with Remiro’s step to his left leaving a good portion of the goal open.
I reckon the Spanish stopper will be frustrated seeing the replay. But Ruben Amorim’s plan of Garnacho and Zirkzee as right- and left-sided No 10s, respectively, has worked as they combine for a well made opening goal.
