The Seattle Seahawks’ asking price for a trade involving star wide receiver DK Metcalf has reportedly lowered.
The Seahawks are now open to a return centered around a second-round pick for their two-time Pro Bowl receiver, The Athletic’s Diana Russini reported on social media Sunday morning. Russini had previously reported the Seahawks were searching for a first- and third-round pick from teams looking to acquire Metcalf’s services.
A look at the Seattle Seahawks’ cap space, draft capital after Geno trade
The news comes just two days after Seattle’s stunning reported trade of quarterback Geno Smith to Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick, which can become official when the new league year starts Wednesday. The Seahawks began trade talks with the Raiders by offering a blockbuster deal involving Smith, Metcalf and Las Vegas star pass rusher Maxx Crosby, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. Breer said Vegas “quickly shot that down.”
Metcalf is looking to play in a warm weather climate and sign an extension worth $30 million per year, per Russini. He currently has one year left on a three-year, $72 million deal extension he signed prior to the 2022 season.
Metcalf had 66 catches for 992 yards and five TDs in 15 games in 2025, falling just eight years shy of his third straight 1,000-yard season. He missed two games midseason with a knee injury.
The former second-round pick has 438 receptions for 6,324 yards and 48 TDs in his six seasons with the Seahawks. He ranks seventh in receptions, sixth in receiving yards and fourth in receiving TDs in franchise history.
A potential DK landing spot
With the asking price for Metcalf reportedly lower, the door appears to be open for a handful of other teams to jump into the Metcalf trade discussions.
The Seahawks likely weren’t going to get an early first-round pick for their receiver, but a second-round pick may be something a team picking in the front half of the draft would be more willing to give up for Metcalf.
NFL Network insider Daniel Jeremiah said there is one team he keeps hearing in regards to a Metcalf trade during an appearance earlier in the week on The Pat McAfee Show.
“Everybody’s saying DK to New England,” said Jeremiah, who is a regular guest on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk.
“When DK becomes available, you just talk to a bunch of buddies around the league and they’re like, ‘That just makes too much sense,’” Jeremiah continued. “They have all the money, they have all the (cap) space, they have no weapons, the high second-round pick.”

Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy shared their thoughts on a Seahawks-Patriots trade involving Metcalf on Friday.
“I think we talked about this when it first went down, you clearly look at the teams with the most cap space, and New England is one of those teams,” co-host and former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus said. “Then you look at what they have to offer in the draft. The number No. 4 pick? You’re not getting that for DK, but they do have the 38th (overall) pick in the second round.”
“It makes sense on paper because DK can be the guy over there,” Bumpus added. “I’m not too familiar with their offense, but there is stability at the quarterback spot.”
Bumpus noted that New England doesn’t check all the boxes that Metcalf wants in a trade partner since it’s not a contender nor does it play in a warm weather climate, but that ultimately Metcalf doesn’t have a final say without a no-trade clause in his current contract.
“I wonder if they’re talking to DK about this,” Bumpus said. “Are they sitting there and saying, ‘Look, these are the offers that we have on the table. Which ones do you like?’ If that’s the approach, that is going against what (Seahawks general manger) John Schneider said, which is we want to do what’s best for the organization.
“It can’t be one-sided, but you would feel like in this situation there has to be some back and forth, because at the end of the day, the Seahawks have the final say in what they’re going to do.”

If the Seahawks were to acquire the Patriots’ second-rounder for Metcalf, they’d have three picks in the top 50 (Nos. 18, 38 and 50).
“New England can become a more interesting team taking a really exciting player at fourth overall. Then you add DK Metcalf to that group,” co-host Stacy Rost said. “… If Diana Russini’s right in that the Seahawks asking price has just been way too high for most teams, not many teams have a higher second-round pick than New England.”
