Robbery?!? Ulberg Decisions Blachowicz

Jan Blachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg squared off in a Light Heavyweight contest earlier tonight (Sat., March 22, 2025) at UFC London from The 02 Arena in London, England. In an extremely competitive fight, Ulberg was named the victor.

Ulberg was happy to play the role of matador from the first bell, circling the outside of the cage with low kicks and looking for his check hook. Blachowicz advanced, trying to track down the younger man opposite him. Not too much landed in the opening couple minutes until a fast Ulberg left hook found its mark with an audible thud. Blachowicz, ever the gamer, doubled down on his leg kick attack in response. Relatively few punches continued to land on either side, but both men continued to attack one another’s base.

Blachowicz looked a little frustrated early in round two, struggling to track down his opponent. Blachowicz forced a blitz and actually landed a couple hooks. Ulberg faked a shot and landed a knee in response. Ulberg threw some quick, snappy low kicks without a ton of force on them. They were responsibly for his edge in volume, but it has to be said that very few shots of any significance landed for either man. Consequently, everything felt up for grabs with five minutes remaining.

The former champion landed a couple decent low kicks to start the third before denying a takedown attempt. Ulberg popped a quick double jab then just missed a right. Blachowicz landed a nice left hand and seemed to be the fresher man — or at least the fighter whose style was holding up better after 12 minutes of combat. Ulberg glanced a right hand off the chin then connected on a clean check hook. Blachowicz tried to use a takedown to land a left hook but swung too wide. His left kick started to land to the body though! Blachowicz attacked with some combos in the closing seconds, landing a single solid left hook for his efforts. Ulberg landed a counter in the exchange as well, cutting “Polish Power.”

Neither man could have any confidence in victory as they waited for the judges’ totals. Ultimately, all three judges sided with Carlos Ulberg, awarding him two of three rounds.

Was it the right call? I have genuinely no idea. I slightly lean towards Blachowicz for putting more stank on his strikes, but neither man landed consistently enough to make a claim. Though it wasn’t the most impressive victory, eight straight wins confirms that Ulberg is a bonafide contender.

Jiri Prochazka next?
