Cristiano Ronaldo set pulses racing with a glorious strike on Saturday night.

The Portuguese superstar was on hand to spare Al Nassr’s blushes by bagging an eight-minute brace in a 2-1 victory over Al Riyadh.

After combining with Sadio Mane to level the game, Ronaldo netted a vicious effort that got fans talking.

With the ball dropping perfectly for him on the edge of the penalty area the legendary figure let fly with a fierce volley that clipped the crossbar on its way into the net.

As well as being the 933rd of his career to date, the strike was his 96th for Al Nassr and his 115th goal contribution since joining the Saudi side.

However it was the sheer quality of Ronaldo’s strike that got fans talking on social media, with the suggestion that he may win the Puskas award for the best goal as a result.

One fan wrote: “What a goal from 40 year old Cristiano Ronaldo.”

A second said: “Give him the Puskas already, this is the goat.”

A third supporter wrote: “Cristiano Ronaldo you are a joke.”

Meanwhile a fourth fan simply said: “Stop that Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Ronaldo’s double came after a disappointing start for Al-Nassr.

Facing Al-Riyadh, the Portuguese star’s side fell behind due to a goal from Feiz Selemani.

The effort came after one of Ronaldo’s teammates was dispossessed in midfield, before their opponent surged towards goal and let fly with an effort that was saved.

However Selemani was on hand to slot him, much to Ronaldo’s fury as he gestured angrily about the state of his side’s defending.

But being Al Nassr’s leader and talisman, it was almost inevitable that the now-40-year-old would take on the challenge of getting his side back into the game.

A 2-1 victory for Al Nassr puts them just one point behind second-place Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League with seven matches of the season remaining.

But with an eight-point deficit on league leaders Al-Ittihad, it seems unlikely that Ronaldo will be able to add another league title to his collection this term.
