Rabat — Saudi Arabia has announced Sunday, March 30 as Eid Al Fitr 2025.
The Gulf country announced the official date after religious committees conducted a moon sighting on Saturday.
According to moon sighting results, the committee sighted the crescent for the month of Shawaal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar.
The confirmation means that Sunday marks Eid Al Fitr in Saudi Arabia, announcing the end of the holy month of Ramadan that lasted for 29 days or 30 this year as the country started fasting for the holy month on March 1.
Many other countries confirmed Sunday as Eid Al Fitr, including Qatar.
Eid Al Fitr is a holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, but it is especially special in Islamic countries, and customs and traditions differ from one region to another.
Celebrations start with morning prayers across the country’s mosques, which bring together millions adorned in different traditional clothes.
Once mosque goers return from the prayers, they can expect a rich morning breakfast, with tables featuring sweets, dates, juices, milk, and tea. In the Gulf country, an Eid Al Iftar table is not complete without Saudi coffee.
Muslims also enjoy their first lunch during the daytime, following a month-long fast. They gather around tables at home, sharing the special time with friends and family
In Saudi Arabia, these tables may be filled with meat kabsa, “al-qursan” bread, “jareesh” with chicken, as well as vegetables, biriyani, and other delicacies. In Morocco, families would either serve the ordinary couscous with seven vegetables, others choose to cook special dishes such as “tefaya,” which is couscous with caramelized onions, and “djaj mhmer,” which is grilled chicken with spices and a famous savory sauce called “deghmira.”
