Severe weather leaves multiple roads flooding across Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Flash flooding is impacting people across the region.

Homes and businesses are flooded as a result of heavy downpours that started Wednesday night.

“Every time it rains we’ve got to check Metro’s site for Brown Creek to make sure its not going crazy, and it went crazy last night,” Nashville business owner Stephen Mason explained.

Widespread flooding happened around the Nashville Fairgrounds, sending multiple inches of water into Mason’s Barbershop, Handsomizer.

“Its gonna be a grueling hour and a half and probably a trip to Home Depot,” Mason said. “We love Nashville, a lot of great restaurants, i wish the weather wasn’t so weird.”

Along Harding Pike, water from Richland Creek rose spilling onto the roadway, prompting first responders to shut it down, impacting those in the area.

“I haven’t seen something like this in quite some time. In Michigan, we have a lot of sand, so the water dissipates quiet fast then it does here,” witness Mark Amy said.

A few miles away along Leland Lane, water filled front lawns of homes and nearby athletic fields.

“Every time it rains, it’s just a lot of devastation to their property to their houses, automobiles, everything,” Nashville resident Mack Lipsey said.

With more rain in the forecast, many are left hoping for a permanent solution to flooding.

“They have been adding to the park and everything, they have been trying to add more mitigation efforts with water. There’s clearly more we need to do,” Mason said.
