No. 5 South Carolina blitzed the No. 1 Texas Longhorns in a second-quarter flurry, pulling away from the nation’s top-ranked team, 64-45, en route to a third straight SEC Tournament title.The Gamecocks (30-3) have won nine of the last 11 SEC tournament championships, including the last five tournaments played at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville.After splitting the regular season series with the Longhorns and finishing with identical 15-1 records in conference play, a coin flip by SEC commissioner Greg Sankey determined the seeding for the top two spots in the SEC Tournament. Sunday’s result left little doubt that it wasn’t just luck on South Carolina’s side.Leading 12-10 after the opening quarter, the Gamecocks opened the second quarter on a 15-0 run, outscoring the Longhorns 21-6 in the period to carry a 33-16 lead into halftime. Chloe Kitts concluded a strong SEC Tournament with a team-high 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tessa Johnson scored 14 for the Gamecocks, who held Texas to 29.6% from the field. Sania Feagin and Joyce Edwards both added 11 points.South Carolina will await their seeding and regional for the NCAA Tournament when the bracket is unveiled next Sunday.
