Spotify ‘much better now’ after problems reported with app, website

(NEXSTAR) — You may have missed out on your morning Daylist but Spotify should be usable again following “issues” Wednesday that made the streaming service difficult to access for thousands.

Around 10 a.m. ET, nearly 50,000 user reports of problems with Spotify have been reported on Downdetector. Issue reports were trending down by 10:15 a.m. ET and have largely leveled out as of 12:30 p.m. ET.

More than half of the complaints were related to the Spotify app, while others pointed to problems with the website and audio streaming. One user reported that while they were initially able to play some songs on Spotify, it soon stopped and appeared to lag. Their home screen was also visible, but podcasts and playlists took an extended time to load.

Shortly before 10 a.m. ET, Spotify said it was “aware of issues affecting the Spotify app and website loading. The right team is on it and working on a fix.” A downtime notice from Spotify said that it was aware that “the app isn’t loading properly or that [users are] experiencing playback issues.”

By around 12 p.m. ET, Spotify reported that it was “all clear.” The service’s support added that “everything’s looking much better now.”

What caused the outage was not immediately clear. Spotify previously confirmed the issue was not linked to a security hack.

Spotify has more than 675 million users, including 263 million subscribers in more than 180 markets, according to the company. Since launching in 2008, the streaming service has expanded to include not only songs and podcasts but audiobooks.
