A day before his 37th birthday, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry became the first NBA player to reach 4,000 career three-pointers. The milestone shot came in the third quarter on March 13, 2025, during a game at San Francisco’s Chase Center against the Sacramento Kings. The Warriors went on to win, 130-104, in front of a roaring home crowd.
Coming into the game, Curry needed just two three-pointers to reach the milestone. He made the first one about ten minutes into the first quarter, but his second and third attempts fell short. Despite the early misses, the basketball phenom remained calm. When he finally made the historic shot, the crowd erupted in celebration.
“When that second one went in I knew there was a lot of game left so I tried not to get too ahead of myself,” Curry said. “But it was a special moment to feel that energy and allow them to enjoy that milestone and accomplishment with me.”

During a timeout shortly after, a tribute played on the big screen. It featured a video message from Curry’s former teammate, Andris Biedrins, who helped set up Curry’s first three-pointer in his rookie season.
“I actually had — I’d call it — an emotional moment on the bench when I saw him. They didn’t tell me that they found him and got a video message from him. That was my vet when I was here my rookie year,” Curry said. “Really cool to kind of think back how far I’ve come, from the first one to 4,000, which is crazy.”
This milestone is just one of many in Curry’s illustrious 16-year NBA career. He broke Ray Allen’s previous record of 2,973 three-pointers on December 14, 2021. A week later, he became the first NBA player to reach 3,000 career three-pointers. Since then, he has continued to extend his lead. Curry is also a four-time NBA champion (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022) and a two-time MVP (2015, 2016).
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr credits Curry’s success to his consistency — he has never gone three consecutive games without making at least one three-pointer — and his willingness to take risks.
“One of the many things I love about Steph is that he always shoots the half-court shots, and he doesn’t care about his percentage,” Kerr said.
When asked what milestone he might expect next from his star player, Kerr joked, “8,000!”
“I like a challenge,” Curry responded.
Curry is not the only Warrior making history this month. On March 15, 2025, Kerr became the winningest coach in Warriors franchise history. His 558th career victory, a 97-94 win against the New York Knicks, surpassed the previous record of 557 wins held by Alvin Attles. He was the team’s head coach from 1970 to 1983.
