Miller is expected to leave Xavier after three seasons, 2022-25. He ranks third all-time in career wins (185) and is coming off taking the Musketeers to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time.

Miller is one of the more experienced and successful coaches in the college game today. After leading Xavier and the Arizona Wildcats to many deep March runs, he will look to do the same for the Longhorns.

Texas’ 2025 NCAA Tournament turn ended before it even started. The Longhorns fell to Miller’s Xavier team on Wednesday night in the First Four, by the final score of 86-80. Overall, Texas had a mediocre 2025 season.

The Longhorns wrapped up the 2024-25 season with a 19-15 overall record, finishing 6-12 in SEC play. This followed a 21-13 campaign the previous year, during which they earned a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament— their final season in the Big 12. Texas secured a first-round victory over Colorado State but fell short against Tennessee in the second round, losing by four points.

After the Longhorns let go of Terry, he shared a heartfelt statement with the fans.

“I am so appreciative to have served the University of Texas and our men’s basketball program for 13 seasons,” Terry said in a statement. “It was a dream of mine to be the head coach of the Longhorns, and I’ve been able to live that dream. I want to thank all of our coaches and current and former players who not only helped us win a lot of games but more importantly ,represented this great university in a first-class manner.”

Miller now comes in at the helm at Austin. He recently finished his third season at Xavier in his second stint, losing to the Illinois Fighting Illini in the round of 64, 86-73. Xavier went 22-12 this season. Miller previously coached Xavier from 2004-09 before joining the Wildcats in 2009.

By parting ways with Terry, Texas will be responsible for a $5.4 million buyout, a condition of the five-year contract he signed following the team’s Elite Eight run.
