The brand new two-part documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You premieres on Paramount+ Tuesday, April 15.
The documentary focuses on the late pop star Aaron Carter, his brother Nick Carter, and the rest of the family. Through a raw and emotional lens, the documentary follows both brothers as they rise to fame and how it detrimentally ravaged their family.
Aaron’s twin sister Angel and other family members recount a tragic story filled with their own family challenges with mental health, loss and addiction—shedding light on how the fame industry negatively impacted not only Aaron and Nick, but the entire family as well.
Home videos and past performance videos are included in the new documentary and help reveal not only the highs that came along with fame, but also the lows.
Who are the Carters?
Both Nick and Aaron Carter took the music industry by storm with Nick rising to fame quickly as a member of the beloved boy band the Backstreet Boys. Meanwhile, Aaron collaborated with the Backstreet Boys occasionally but enjoyed his solo career immensely.
The brothers had three other siblings including Leslie, Bobbie Jean and Angel. Out of the five, only Angel and Nick are still living. Aaron died in 2022 at age 34 from an accidental drowning in a bathtub located in his California home. Both Leslie and Bobbie Jean died from apparent drug overdoses in 2012 and 2023 respectively.
