The Beatles biopics are coming together!
In early 2024, Sony Pictures and Neal Street Productions announced that director Sam Mendes would be helming four separate, yet intersecting Beatles biopics. In a February 2024 statement, the director shared he was “honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.”
After months of rumored castings, Mendes revealed at CinemaCon 2025 on March 31 that the actors behind the “Fab Four” were solidified: Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.
During the event, he also shared that the project would be collectively called The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, and will be the “first bingable theatrical experience” following its April 2028 release.

The Beatles had a historic career as a rock band, earning eight Grammy awards and breaking numerous records until they broke up in 1970.
Co-producer Pippa Harris shared in a statement in February 2024 that the goal of the four-part project is to be a “uniquely thrilling, and epic cinematic experience” with individual movies that “tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time.”
During CinemaCon, Mendes spoke about how the projects would all be filmed from each member’s point of view, saying, “They’re four very different human beings. Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.”
He continued, “But together, all four films will tell the story of the greatest band in history. I just felt the story of the band was too huge to fit into a single movie, and that turning it into a TV mini-series just somehow didn’t feel right.”
Though each band member will have their own film, Starr told PEOPLE in March 2025 that, like in real life, they will intersect in each other’s stories.
“My life as a lad, John’s life, Paul’s life, George’s life, I mean, it must interact in some way,” the Beatles alum said. “There’ll be Beatles in mine around when I joined, and there’ll be Beatles in Paul’s. We’ll all be there.”

The cast of The Beatles biopics was officially confirmed in March 2025, with Keoghan taking on the role of Starr, Mescal portraying McCartney, Quinn playing Harrison and Dickinson starring as Lennon.
While rumors of the cast were still swirling in December 2024, Mescal told Entertainment Tonight that “it would be an incredible story to be attached to.”
“It truly would be a dream come true,” the actor added.
Meanwhile, Dickinson was tight-lipped about his casting when he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in January 2025, though he shared that “it would be a brilliant opportunity to play John Lennon, and to work with Sam and everyone else mentioned … It would be splendid.”
Starr himself weighed in on the casting rumors while speaking to Entertainment Tonight in December 2024, saying that it would be “great” if Keoghan was set to play him.
“I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons,” Starr said. “I hope not too many.”

Mendes — who previously helmed 2012’s Skyfall and 2019’s 1917 — will direct all four of the Beatles biopics. At CinemaCon 2025, Mendes shared that he had been “trying to make a movie about them for years.”
“The Beatles changed my understanding of music,” the director said.

Sit tight, Beatles fans! The four feature films are projected to be released in April 2028, however, it is unclear whether they will all come out on the same day or if they will be spaced out on a weekly basis.
While filming has yet to begin, Mendes announced at CinemaCon 2025 that they would be on set for one year.

What better place to watch a four-part cinematic event than the theater itself? The Beatles biopics will premiere in theaters.
