The Detroit Tigers won their second game in three days against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday as manager AJ Hinch’s team notched its 48th win of the season in game two of the series Thursday afternoon. 

The third and final game of the series was scheduled for 5:40 p.m., started at 6:10 p.m. and included a thrilling start while the two teams traded runs. 

The Tigers tied the game up at 4-4 on a two-run home run by Colt Keith in the seventh inning before mounting a comeback attempt in the ninth inning that was stopped short by pouring rain. 

“What a game by the way,” Tigers play-by-play man Jason Benetti said to FanDuel Sports Network analyst Johnny Kane as Kane said he was caught in the rain.

“Wait ’em out, man,” Kane said as a “torrential” downpour unfolded in Detroit.

The Tigers announced news on the situation as fans scrambled for cover.

“We have entered a delay due to inclement weather in the area,” the Tigers’ X account wrote.

“Updates will be provided when possible.” 

Kane said at 9:36 p.m. that the game was expected to resume around 10:05 p.m. ET as movement was recorded by the weather system over Comerica Park. 

Detroit had just five hits total on the night, one each from catcher Jake Rogers, Keith, second baseman Gleyber Torres, designated hitter Riley Greene, and shortstop Trey Sweeney.

Pitcher Tyler Holton started the game for Detroit and gave up four hits and three earned runs while striking out a batter in 1.1 innings.

He was spelled by Keider Montero, who went five innings, striking out five and giving up three hits and two bases on balls as Detroit’s pitching staff kept hope alive for a series sweep in the Motor City.
