Trees toppled, homes damaged after tornado-warned storms move through region
LINDSEY. YEAH, UNBELIEVABLE FOOTAGE AND IMAGES THERE. ALLISON. THANK YOU. AND WE ARE TRACKING REPORTS OF DAMAGE IN MULTIPLE NEIGHBORHOODS ALL OVER OUR AREA. AND THAT INCLUDES THE CAMP CEDAR RV RESORT AND KINGS MILLS. NEWS FIVE’S DANIELLE DINDAK JOINS US WITH WHAT WE’RE LEARNING. DANIELLE, WHAT ARE YOU SEEING? LINDSEY, WHAT A NIGHT. IT’S BEEN HERE IN KINGS MILLS. AND AS YOU MENTIONED RIGHT NOW, I’M AT CAMP CEDAR. I DO WANT TO WALK YOU AROUND SO YOU CAN KIND OF GET AN IDEA OF HOW POWERFUL THOSE WINDS WERE WHEN THEY WHIPPED THROUGH. SO ONE IDEA OF IT IS ACTUALLY TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. I’M GOING TO USE MY PHONE AS A FLASHLIGHT. YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THIS CEMENT GRILL RIPPED OUT OF THE GROUND, TOSSED ABOUT. AND THEN IF YOU TAKE A LOOK UP THE SKY RIGHT HERE, I TALKED TO SOME PEOPLE. THEY SAID, YEAH, THAT SIGN DIDN’T ALWAYS LOOK LIKE THAT. THE WINDS RIPPED RIGHT THROUGH, TOOK OFF THAT VINYL SIGN HERE. IT’S JUST FLAPPING OVER IN THE WIND. I’M GOING TO WALK CLOSER OVER THIS WAY. WE HAVE TO WATCH WHERE WE WALK HERE BECAUSE THERE’S TRULY DEBRIS EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. STARTING WITH THIS GLASS THAT YOU’RE SEEING RIGHT HERE. AND THEN TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. MORE DEBRIS WITH AN INDUSTRIAL LIKE PLUG JUST STICKING OUT OVER HERE. THEIR SIDING AND FENCING. BUT THAT RIGHT THERE THAT’S ACTUALLY AN RV FLIPPED RIGHT TO THE SIDE LIKE A TIN CAN. MULTIPLE PEOPLE WERE OUT HERE TONIGHT. THANKFULLY THEY WERE ABLE TO TAKE SHELTER. I’M TOLD IN THE BATHHOUSE WE WERE ABLE TO TALK TO THE MANAGER AND I ASKED HER. I WAS LIKE, WHAT DID IT SOUND LIKE WHEN THIS STORM RIPPED THROUGH? SHE SAID, MUCH LIKE THIS PLACE. SHE WAS VISIBLY SHAKEN WHEN SHE WAS TALKING TO ME, AND SHE SAID SHE COULDN’T EVEN EXPLAIN IT BECAUSE THAT’S HOW STRONG THAT STORM WAS. YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE A CAR BATTERY, AND THERE’S JUST DIFFERENT THINGS IN THE GRASS. THIS IS ACTUALLY ALL FENCING OR WHAT WAS FENCING. IT WAS ALL BLOWN OUT, TWISTED, MANGLED IN THE TREES. SOME TREES ARE NOW MISSING LIMBS. AND THEN ANOTHER RV FLIPPED TO THE SIDE OVER THERE. SO THANKFULLY I COULD TELL YOU, LINDSEY, THAT NONE OF THE FAMILIES WERE HURT. NO ONE WAS HURT. THANKFULLY, DUE TO THIS STORM, BUT A LOT OF MEMORIES WERE LOST. AS YOU’RE ONCE AGAIN, WE’RE TELLING YOU THAT TWO RVS WERE FLIPPED TO THE SIDE DUE TO THIS STORM. DEBRIS IS EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. WE WERE TALKING TO PEOPLE. LIKE I MENTIONED, THEY’RE VISIBLY UPSET, BUT ONCE AGAIN, NOBODY WAS HURT. FIREFIGHTERS WERE OUT HERE CHECKING THE AREA. I’M TOLD THERE’S NO LIVE WIRES OUT HERE. BUT THE THING IS, AS YOU CAN TELL, THERE’S NO POWER. SO YOU REALLY HAVE TO WATCH WHERE YOU’RE WALKING OUT HERE BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN, NOT ONLY IS THERE DEBRIS IN THE GROUND, BUT THERE’S JUST GLASS AND EVERYTHING ELSE. SO THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY AREAS IN KINGS MILLS THAT WERE IMPACTED BY THE STORM. BUT LIKE I SAID, EVERYONE OUT HERE VISIBLY SHAKEN, TELLING ME IT ALMOST FELT LIKE A TRAIN BARRELED THROUGH CAMP CEDAR, WHERE I’M STANDING, BECAUSE EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK, THERE IS NOT ONLY RVS FLIPPED TO THE SIDE, BUT DEBRIS EVERYWHERE OUT HERE. SO WE’LL CONTINUE TO BE SAFE AND BRING YOU THE LATEST. BUT I’M REPORTING LIVE OUT HERE IN KINGS MILLS DANIELLE DINDAK, WLWT NEWS FIVE. AND DANIEL, BEFORE YOU GO, HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO GET A SENSE OF THE COMMUNITY THERE? YOU’VE BEEN TALKING TO NEIGHBORS. YOU’VE BEEN IN SO MANY DIFFERENT AREAS IN KINGS MILLS. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING ABOUT THAT COMMUNITY? ARE THEY TIGHT KNIT? IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE RESPONDED TONIGHT. LINDSEY, I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT’S ALWAYS SUCH A TRAGEDY WHEN WE HAVE TO COME OUT HERE AFTER STORMS, BECAUSE IT’S JUST SUCH DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. BUT THERE’S ALWAYS BEAUTY IN WHAT WE SEE IN THAT AFTERMATH, BECAUSE NEIGHBORS JUST TRULY COME TOGETHER JUST MINUTES AFTER THE STORM LET UP. WHEN WE WERE OVER ON KING AVENUE, WE ACTUALLY SAW THERE WAS A GIANT TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD THERE BLOCKING THE STREET. SOMEONE WAS ALREADY OUT THERE WITH A CHAINSAW JUST MINUTES AFTER THE STORM. EVERYONE WAS OUT THERE KNOCKING ON DOORS SAYING, ARE YOU OKAY? CHECKING IN ON NEIGHBORS. SO WHILE THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND A VERY SAD SITUATION HERE TONIGHT, NEIGHBORS ARE REALLY COMING TOGETHER IN THE AFTERMATH. YEAH, DANNY. SO INCREDIBLE TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE STEPPING UP
