Fifteen years after the last Tron film, it’s time to take the light cycles for a spin again as Disney has shared the new trailer for Tron: Ares, the third installment in the sci-fi series.
The preview doesn’t offer up much in terms of storyline — has the digital world of Tron invaded reality, with light cycles splitting actual police cars in half, or have graphics in the simulation improved mightily over the past decades? —but it does provide a first look at Jared Leto’s protagonist Ares, as well as a sampling of Nine Inch Nails’ score; notably, the music is attributed to NIN (who will contribute new songs in addition to the score) and not the Oscar-winning duo of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
“Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings,” Disney previously said of the film.
Tron: Ares will also see the return of Jeff Bridges’ Flynn; the actor also reprised the role in 2010’s Daft Punk-scored Tron: Legacy. While Bridges doesn’t appear in the trailer, he’s heard in voiceover telling another character, “Ready? Cause there’s no going back.”
The film also stars Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro and Gillian Anderson, and was directed by Joachim Ronning. Tron: Ares will be uploaded into theaters on October 10, 2025.
