The Indiana Pacers are taking a three-game winning streak into Denver to take on the Nuggets on Sunday night, with both teams potentially without key contributors.
For the Nuggets, two players land on the injury report for their second matchup of the season against the Pacers.
DaRon Holmes II is out with right Achilles tendon repair, to no surprise. However, Jamal Murray is questionable with right hamstring inflammation. Murray has been lingering on the injury report with the hamstring issue over the two weeks.
Murray had been tagged as questionable before being ruled out in each of Denver’s last four games due to inflammation of his right hamstring. If the trend continues, expect Peyton Watson and Jalen Pickett to see more playing time.
Murray is averaging 21.6 points per game with 3.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. Murray hasn’t played since March 26, when he played 37 minutes in the Nuggets’ 127-117 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Murray had 17 points, four rebounds, and six assists in the win but struggled with his efficiency, making just six of his 15 field goals and one of his seven three-point attempts.
In Murray’s absence, Watson has played and started in three games, missing their 113-106 loss against the San Antonio Spurs on April 2. In the three-game stretch, Watson is averaging 35.0 minutes, 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He’s tallied seven blocks and a steal, but has shot just 37.5 percent from the field and has missed all seven of his 3-pointers.
Pickett has played all four games, starting a pair, and has been trusted with 28 minutes per game. He’s made an all-around contribution, averaging 8.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
For the Pacers, Pascal Siakam is out, set to miss his second game of the season due to right olecranon bursitis. The Pacers are expected to take a cautious approach with Siakam as he deals with the elbow injury, focusing ahead on the playoffs.
Siakam is averaging 20.3 points, 6.9 rebound,s and 3.4 assists per game this season, but just 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game over his last 10 contests. In Siakam’s absence, expect larger roles from Jarace Walker and Obi Toppin to flank Myles Turner in the front court as he’ll have his hands full with Nikola Jokic.
