Down by 20 points, the Bruins have leaned in on posting up Lauren Betts. The slow, methodical offensive action has the simultaneous advantage of eating clock and giving the Huskies defense an easy target. They are doubling down when she makes her move, especially to the middle, and crashing the boards aggressively. When Betts misses, it’s deflating for UCLA after having to work so hard to get a good shot — and UConn is running misses hard the other way.
The Bruins may need to switch approaches if they want to make this a game at all. UCLA has taken seven three-pointers, making just one, while UConn has made five. UCLA is also not getting to the free throw line.
The Bruins need to get up more threes and pray some drop.
