WASHINGTON (TNND) — Vice President JD Vance on Monday denied the validity of allegedly leaked audio in which the vice president supposedly expressed frustration with Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk.
The audio, shared via X, seemingly depicts the vice president ranting about Musk and condemning his actions as a special government employee. That clip earned nearly two million views as of Monday afternoon.
Everything that he’s doing is getting criticized in the media and he says that he’s helping and he’s not,” a voice says in the clip. “He has the audacity to act like he is an elected official. I am an elected official. I am the important one in this situation, not him.
“If he wants to tank the economy and his cars, maybe that’s what he deserves,” it adds.
Vance reacted to the clip via X and denied its validity.
“It’s a fake AI-generated clip,” he said. “I’m not surprised this guy doesn’t have the intelligence to recognize this fact, but I wonder if he has the integrity to delete it now that he knows it’s false. If not, it could be defamation. I guess we’ll find out!”
Also speaking out was Vance’s communications director William Martin who echoed these sentiments.
“This audio is 100% fake and most certainly not the Vice President,” he wrote.
Religious leader Talbert Swan argued, however, the coverup proves the audio is authentic.
“So now the @JDVanceteam wants you to think the leaked audio of him going in about @elonmusk is fake,” he wrote. These are the people who also told you that Black people were eating cats and dogs.”
The dubious clip comes as Musk is facing national scrutiny over his involvement in the Trump administration. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, last week joined a nationwide protest call, during which she demanded that Elon Musk be “taken down.”
“On March 29 it’s my birthday,” she said. “All I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down.”
