Weather Impact Alert issued for Friday night and Saturday for storms, snow, rain, wind and plummeting temps

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — With thunderstorms and snow coming to Minnesota this weekend, the KARE 11 weather team has declared a Weather Impact Alert.

Meteorologist Ben Dery said the threat for our first round of thunderstorms of the season arrives Friday evening. Our window for the storm is between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., and it could become severe.

“The emphasis for stronger storms is far southeastern Minnesota,” Dery said. “These storms could include severe winds, small hail, and even a tornado or two.”

Saturday, the western half of the state could see snowfall, according to Dery. The amounts are still up in the air, but heavy snow combined with windy conditions will make travel difficult.

In the metro, temps will fall Saturday afternoon and it will be windy. Dery said there could be some snow later in the day but there won’t be much in the way of accumulation with the storms departing quickly.

By Sunday it will still be windy, raw and much colder, with highs below freezing.
