West Virginia not included in postseason fields

West Virginia was snubbed for a bid in the NCAA Tournament.

And now the Mountaineers have answered the question about postseason basketball at all.

West Virginia declined an invitation to the NIT and was not included in the field for the College Basketball Crown.

There were five other Big 12 teams within the bracket including Cincinnati, UCF, Utah, Arizona State and Colorado but not West Virginia who finished as the first team excluded from the Big Dance.

The Mountaineers finished the season 19-13 overall and 10-10 in the Big 12 Conference while recording six quadrant one victories, one of 30 teams to achieve that feat. But were shockingly left out of the field despite being a consensus choice in all 111 of the brackets on BracketMatrix.com.

So, what does declining other postseason opportunities mean?

Well, that’s a loaded question at this stage as it could simply mean that the coaching staff wants to focus on the upcoming transfer portal window that opens March 24 instead of playing in a tournament that doesn’t even begin until March 31. Or perhaps the players themselves didn’t want to play in the event?

Of course, there are going to be the ongoing questions with the status of head coach Darian DeVries until that is formally addressed.

But that’s where we find ourselves one day after not being included in the NCAAs.
