Why Giants’ Reported QB Agreement Should Shift Patriots’ Draft Hopes

The New England Patriots are in a tricky spot with the fourth overall pick, which is why any move the teams ahead of them in the 2025 NFL Draft is worth paying attention to.

According to multiple reports, the New York Giants agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal with Jameis Winston on Friday. The NFC East side’s deal came amid their interest in Aaron Rodgers.

What does this mean for the Patriots?

The Tennessee Titans seem to be on track toward selecting quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick. It’s unknown what the Cleveland Browns will do at No. 2, and the Giants also are a wild card with the third overall pick.

Recent mock drafts had New York taking QB Shedeur Sanders. That would be great for New England since if two signal-callers get drafted in the top three, it would allow Mike Vrabel’s side to select either Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter, arguably the top two players in the class.

At first glance, the Winston agreement might deter the Giants from selecting a quarterback. However, a top NFL insider laid out their plans clearly.

“This does not change the #Giants’ pursuit of Aaron Rodgers or alter any other possible QB routes. Just getting a veteran QB under contract in a QB room that only had Tommy DeVito coming into the day,” Mike Garafolo posted on X.

Simple enough, then. The Patriots should hope that Rodgers, who reportedly visited the Steelers on Friday, chooses to sign with Pittsburgh. That would force the Giants to lean toward selecting a quarterback in the NFL draft. It would be the perfect turnout for New England to select a true game-changing talent.
