Wolves Issue Surprise Anthony Edwards Injury Announcement

With 10 games left in the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves are on the fringe of a top-six playoff seed with the efforts of Anthony Edwards leading the way.

The 23-year-old phenom has averaged the fourth-most points per game (27.5) and has evolved into one of the NBA‘s premier three-point shooters with the second-most makes (278) from beyond the arc this season.

The Wolves are hoping to avenge last week’s 132-130 overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers on Monday, March 24.

But with 24 hours before the game, Edwards emerged on the team’s injury report.

The Timberwolves listed Edwards as questionable for Monday’s game with a “right thumb laceration.” While a cut may be minor, it is on Edwards’ shooting hand which could impact his play.

The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, reacting to the news, said that Edwards left the locker room “right away” after last Friday’s 134-93 win over the New Orleans Pelicans in a rush.

Edwards did not play the final quarter against the Pelicans. It’s unclear how much the cut was affecting Edwards with his absence from the postgame locker room.

The Timberwolves don’t play until Friday after Monday’s matchup in Indiana. If Edwards’ injury is serious, resting him will protect him from aggravating the cut and offer him ample time to recover.

Currently eighth in the Western Conference standings, the Wolves (41-31) are just 0.5 games behind the No. 6 Golden State Warriors.

They face the Pacers, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons and the Denver Nuggets in the next 11 days.
