WASHINGTON (TNND) — WWE star Joe Anoa’i, also known as Roman Reigns, said in a Vanity Fair profile piece Thursday that he voted for President Donald Trump despite being a registered member of the Democratic Party.
During the interview, Anoa’i expressed his belief that the world “seems to be more like wrestling than any other form of entertainment.” Wrestling, he argued “has been held up as a Rosetta stone for understanding modern politics” in the Trump era due to the president’s support of WWE and MMA.
When asked who he supported in the 2024 election, Anoa’i explained “one person was answering questions, so it wasn’t that hard,” he said.
“I support our president,” he added. “Trump is one of those guys where he’s got a vast history and a huge background. He’s been in entertainment. He’s been in big business, politics. At this point, I’m supporting a bright future for our country. Positive and competent leadership. For us to be what we’re supposed to be—to be a world leader and carry that respect and do what a world power like us should be doing.”
Anoa’i, the article noted, doesn’t support everything Trump does. He reportedly expressed frustration with the way Trump is “nursing grievances against political rivals,” adding that he believes the president likely thrives off competition with political rivals.
Anoa’i is not the only WWE wrestler to back Trump as Hulk Hogan appeared at the 2024 Republican National Convention to rally support for him. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also explained in 2024 he regretted voting for former President Joe Biden, but did not explicitly state support for Trump.
