Yet another quarterback option is off the board for the Pittsburgh Steelers as Mac Jones is heading to the San Francisco 49ers. Jones signed a two-year deal with the 49ers and is the latest quarterback with starting experience to head elsewhere.
Jones, who was the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars and became the backup for Trevor Lawrence. He was 2-5 in seven starts, throwing for 1672 yards with 8 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.
Jones would have been one of the options the Steelers could have turned to instead of Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson if they had missed out on both. However, as options continue to dwindle, it seems the Steelers will boxed into one of those two veterans.
Other options, such as Jacoby Brissett, Marcus Mariota, and Kirk Cousins, are seemingly off the board after signing elsewhere or being retained by their current teams. Pittsburgh is reportedly in talks with Mason Rudolph, but only in a backup role.
